Our Curriculum

The British National Curriculum, integrated with the best of International Curricula are taught through topics and subjects and consist of -
Core subjects - English, Mathematics and Science,
General Subjects - History, Geography, Art, Music and Physical Education,
Ministry of Education Subjects - Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies.
- Reading
The teaching staff put great emphasis on the need to develop the skill of reading. We also believe that the foundation of reading can also be reinforced in the home. Children, who enjoy looking at books, learn to take care of them and to respect them, look forward with pleasure and anticipation to bringing them home and sharing in the experience. Children will bring home books regularly and will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge by accessing a variety of library books and information.
- Speaking and Listening
These skills are constantly encouraged during class lessons and also at break times. Children are expected to speak in English at all times unless in a specific language lesson. We find that involvement in Drama, Public speaking in Assembly and Special Events, as well as reading and poetry, enhances their ability to communicate with increased confidence.
- Writing, Handwriting and Presentation
Handwriting will follow many stages, from looking and copying individual letters of the alphabet to the use of vocabulary books and developing a fluent, modern style. However, students are encouraged to excel in presentation and personal standards of handwriting and will follow a variety of schemes and coordinated artistic instruction. Writing, including Creative, Spelling and general work, is developed and nurtured using both ‘Pre-design’ materials and ‘teacher inspired’ creativity. Displays and Assemblies encourage students to strive for the highest of standards in all these areas.
- Mathematics
Mathematics is taught using National Curriculum material designed and produced especially in U.K. however; a variety- rather than one scheme- is a available to the students. Emphasis is placed on ‘Old values’. Computation and calculation ‘basics’ fluency is expected and technology introduced at a later stage. Recording gives reinforcement at every stage of development.
- Topic work
Each term will integrate work in History, Geography, Human and Physical Sciences. Many of the skills learned in other subjects will be useful and will help to increase confidence in these new learning situations. Topics will be based on National Curriculum Guides; however, each will be modified according to its complexity, interest level and relevance to Middle Eastern Education. Visits, audiovisual stimuli, experiments, computer programmes and displays will provide an excellent foundation for Senior Department study method study method and requirement.
- The Arts
Students are given every opportunity to both experience and appreciate Art, Music and Drama. Emphasis is put on these subjects in the hope that in later life, students will be able to enjoy and understand some of the enormous variety of culture the World has to offer and may perhaps contribute in some way with their own ideas. Displays of Art, Concerts and Performances showing Instrumental, Vocal and Dramatic talent are a major part of the Academic Calendar.
